The collective and the individual. Plumbed in to a collective stratagem of preceding events, transmitted by the individual, to individuals as a collective.
Images, proto-languages, hieroglyphs, glyphs and then symbolic structural tongues. Once removed, purified. The dream of sharing, dealt the blow of codification.
Language defines us, art is not a language, cave drawings a proto-cinema; images we share, language we use. And so the language and its styles, its methods, its order, its feel, its texture, its grammar, surfaces in the things we do which are not speaking or writing.
Artworks are a soup of these things, they are a bad broth when they are submissive to the trappings of verbal language, we must escape classification, compartmentalisation and aim for the centre.
